Being an immensely talented artist takes a ton of patience and perseverance for sure, two qualities that Salaam Muhammad has proven to have in abundance. He may not share the same upbringing with his artistic peers but one things for sure: Muhammad's talent can stand toe to toe with any other's in the game. The multi talented painter caught our attention with his vast catalogue of extremely realistic works, with predominantly African American subject matter. We decided to reach out and hear more about his inspirational work.
1. Where are you from? Did you have an artistic upbringing or did you discover things on your own?
I am From Elizabeth Nj..I didn’t have a artistic upbringing. I discovered a lot on my own from going to Art Museums and studying art history.
2. What type of message do you want to leave people with when they look at your work?
The message I strive to leave with my work is the core foundations of strength,Faith , beauty, empowerment and excellence.
3. Whats one real life moment that inspired you to create?
One real life moment that inspired me to create was when I realized how powerful we are as artists. Through past history, going back to the renaissance artists and the ancient writings on pyramid walls and Art that from our ancestors that inspires the culture we see today.
4. What role do you believe the artist has in society?
The role the Artist has in society is to reform and reshape society through creativity and our innovative thinking poured out into our art. Our role to change the trend of society to a positive direction ..we make up the cultural revolution.
5. What's on the horizon for you? Where do you see your talents taking you in the future?
I see myself making the greatest impact in my art for today’s time. My goal is to build my family and community and nation with the wealth that comes my way from being an artist and to unite with other artist to forward the cultural revolution of change.
