Meet the musician who earned a spot on NBA 2K's next soundtrack
THE DMV ARTIST IS NEXT UP
When NBA 2K20 announced it's first ever contest to partner with up and coming music artists for the games soundtrack, submissions poured in from across the globe. Among the 20,000 songs that were sent in and reviewed was "Traffic Jam", a hit single by the DMV artist AkinG Kalld Pedro. "I chose Traffic Jam because it’s my favorite song and it has helped me overcome hard times in my life," He says. "I always knew that this song would do well because of the story behind it." When he picked up a call from Steve Stout telling him that he'd won the contest, his intuition was proven to be correct. With his songs inclusion now official, Pedro is looking ahead at what this means for his career.https://youtu.be/5fLRxh00GXs
AkinG Kalld Pedro grew up around music, and his songs often share the trials and tribulations of everyday life with color and wit. His productions have been consistent thus far, with three projects under his belt including his most recent album "Surrealism". While his music has already been popular in it's own right, he's confident that 2K will introduce a new fanbase to his sound. "If Traffic Jam can get at least 25% of the listeners from that number per month to follow my journey in music, it's a win for me." He says. "Having my song on a world wide distribution channel, like NBA 2k, is priceless."

Going forward, he hopes that his track will shine more light on the influx of talent in the DMV. Expect him to keep the momentum going, as his fanbase continues to grow. And while winning the contest can prove to be career changing, AkinG Kalld Pedro prefers to look at the bigger picture. "Personally speaking, I think that it gives a glimmer of hope that in some cases you don't need the middle-man to get you to certain goals in life," He says. "And I believe a lot of artists can relate to that."
