Jas is ready to "Kick Up" the year with her latest single

New r&b music out of ATL

Creating while young is one thing, but an artist's pursuit of their passion becomes increasingly complicated when real world responsibilities kick in. For some, this is a solid reason to move on from their dreams of old. For artists like Jas however, balancing responsibility with music has been reality for years. The South Atlanta native has been grinding for this moment and it's beginning to look like her time. Fresh off her new single "Kick Up", Jas is picking up steam for her songwriting and melodious vocals. "I plan to touch as many people with my music as I possibly can," She says. "Especially young black girls". She can definitely count us in.Check out her out her interview below! For more dope content, other new r&b music and more click here

1. We loved your track "Kick Up". It has the kind of light hearted vibe that we don't get enough of these days. What was the inspiration behind this track?

I had just gotten back from my birthday trip in Miami. My friends and I had such a good time and I was still on a high when I got back to the studio in Atlanta. Super Jay, the producer and co-writer of the track, played the record for me and I fell in love with the song idea. We went in and started brainstorming and a few hours later, it started sounding like we had a hit!

2. Where would you say your passion for music derives from? What is it about the art form that attracted you?

I've always been a storyteller. I started off writing stories and then it eventually turned into writing songs. Music has always felt like an escape for me. Even when I've gotten frustrated and thought I was going to give up on my dream, music has always been able to comfort me. Music has a way of touching everyone. Whatever emotion you're feeling, I can guarantee that there is a song that speaks to it. That's the beauty of music. It's a universal language. Could you imagine life without it? I know that I can't and I'm so grateful that I've been given the gift to create songs that can really touch the people.

3. In a lot of cases, we've seen artists drop out of school to pursue their art. How important was it for you to finish out before diving in to the music? How has the transition from college to music artist been?

I definitely felt the pressure to drop out of college. Finishing was hard. I was a full time student, working a full time job, and recording or rehearsing for long hours. The days were long and the nights were even longer but I knew that finishing was important. My mother sacrificed a lot for me to even have the chance to go to college. I'm in the first generation of college students in my family. Graduating from college meant so much more than just receiving the degree. The most important thing was proving to myself that I could see it through to the end.

4. Which artists would you say influence your style of music?

There are too many to name! Some of my favorite artists are the queen Beyoncé, Lauryn Hill, Brandy, Jazmine Sullivan, BJ the Chicago Kid, D'angelo, Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, Alabama Shakes and so many more.

5. The streets want to know, what should we expect next from Jas?

There's so much on the way! My first EP will be dropping soon...visuals and of course, more music. I never stop creating. I'm also working on starting my non-profit. I'm so excited to share these things with the world. 2019 is going to be a big year!Listen below!https://youtu.be/gqh0RDEPIvoFor more dope content, other new r&b music and more click here
