Derreke Johnson is looking to “Do More Good” in the World

Meet the mind behind the growing clothing brand

This year has been a major change for everyone across the world. While some are struggling to contain their sanity through one of the darkest periods in America’s history. Midwest rapper, Derreke Johnson is finding the light through his quarantine creation. Last month, the 22 year-old launched his new clothing brand “Do More Good.” Which is a simplistic phrase for his life motto: If you want more, you gotta do more. “I believe whatever you want in life you have to “Do More” to obtain it and “Do More” to maintain it.” After coming up with the name “Do More” he thought it would be cool to add the (Good) because of his aspiration to influence people to “Do More (Good)” in the world .”new midwest rappersWhen asked how the quarantine has been affecting the upstart of DMG, Johnson replied: "It's been great. I have more time to put attention to details and strategically plan how I want to present my brand." Growing up  in Indiana, “D.Flame” which is his producing tag, found his community through fashion. “ I came up in a small town called Merrillville which is  40 minutes outside of Chicago and my mom used to take us shopping downtown all the time.” Which quickly led to him wanting to create something of his own. So, during high school, Johnson and a few of his friends came up with a brand ‘Urban Genius’ and sold merch to their peers. “Once I saw my peers' reactions I knew that this was something I’d be doing for the rest of my life.”

"Anybody who is on the trail of living out their dreams should rock the brand.”

From there, he knew that changing his location would create a better environment and provide more resources that could transcend his creativity. In 2018, Johnson was blessed with an opportunity to intern for a grammy nominated producer and studio in Los Angeles, California. “I had visited out there a few times previously and overtime I fell in love with the weather” he says, “While there I started tapping into the fashion culture which hooked me into officially moving."Today, Flame likes to call the transition to L.A  one of the best things that’s ever happened to him and the Do More Good brand. He wants his wearers to feel motivated every time that they put on a DMG tee or any of his sewn pieces. "Anybody who is on the trail of living out their dreams should rock the brand.” Be sure to check out his Instagram @domore.dflame to grab his latest collection and stay updated on his next debut! For more dope content, click here
