NewFlo Brody delivers with his latest EP: "It's Been A While"

The Brooklyn musician returns from his hiatus

While most of us have been filled with uncertainty for the past few months, there is something about challenging times that brings the best out of true artists. For the rapper known as NewFlo Brody, quarantining was not a time to rest up, but rather to retool and do what he does best: make hits. The Brooklyn musician is fresh off the release of his six song EP "It's Been A While" and after an early listen, it sounds like his best work yet.

If there's anything we like about NewFlo Brody's latest project, it's his ability to take risks. In this EP, he showcases an ability to get gully like only a New Yorker can, but his beat selection and flow can also be appreciated in the south. A move from Brooklyn to Florida in his late teens has a lot to do with that. "I was exposed to a lot of rappers in Florida," He says. "I came from doing open mics to opening up for Rick Ross. The years I spent in Florida helped mold me in to the rapper I am today."

"I came from doing open mics to opening up for Rick Ross. The years I spent in Florida helped mold me in to the rapper I am today."

NewFlo Brody's blend of southern and east coast influences make sense when asked about his inspirations: "I was inspired by Mobb Deep, Jay-z, Drake, Future, Jeezy, Rick Ross, Fabolous and 50 cent to name a few," He says. In the first track of his EP he talks his shit with pinpoint precision with lines like "Young Brody keep it flowing, Fly shit like a Boeing, kill shit my condolence, look who I influenced" The bars are complemented with a beat sinister enough to make listeners want to throw on a hoodie and make trouble.https://youtu.be/uJYPcRAv-Wo
Throughout the tape, Brody proves that he's got way more tricks in his bag too. In our personal favorite track "Nakita" he teams up with Jai Emm for a feel good summer anthem. Over a beat that sounds suitable for the Boricuas in Uptown NYC, NewFlo Brody makes it his own. While he professes his love for Nakita on this track, he ends the tape off on another note. "I Like Hoes" is a fun, catchy banger with a west coast sort of bounce to it that would go crazy in the clubs.

In "It's Been A While" New Flo Brody makes the seamless transition from group projects to a full fledged solo artist. It's a short but sweet project, that truly has something for everyone. "I just locked in and the music started flowing," Brody says. "I create from the energy the beat gives me."  Quarantine has brought a lot of unease around us all but for New Flo Brody, it inspired a great project in "It's Been A While". We're looking forward to more music, more projects and more fire from him going forward.
