A NEW ARTIST TO REMEMBER
Despite being fresh off of her first official release, Yancyabril is no stranger to the game and the perceptions often placed on artists. With this in mind, it makes sense that when asked to describe her signature sound, she is hesitant. "I often struggle with answering the question", She says. "I like to see it as just a story I am telling and people can interpret the style however they want." In her single "Shut You Down", those story telling abilities are on full display, as she details the inner workings of a relationship with beautiful vocal dexterity. The song is a bop all on it's own, but we like to think that it's also a sign of more to come going forward.
Yancyabril's diverse sound is perhaps a direct reflection of her upbringing in NYC. She claims Washington Heights as home, where her mom played a mixture of R&B, Pop, Rock and a number of Spanish musicians throughout her childhood. Eventually she'd go on to pick up a guitar and find her own voice, gaining momentum by creating some amazing covers where she's displayed the voice that could very well make her a name to look out for on the music scene.

In 2017, she laid the foundation for what would be her first official release "Shut You Down". The track was inspired by a heat of the moment argument and tinkered with on and off. "My friend and I started the production with his laptop and mic on Logic pro, we then got busy and took a break from it and kind of forgot about it." She says. After some time, it was put back in motion as she connected with other producers and started the process over. The result is an impressive debut, in which Yancyabril complements the crisp production with savvy song writing throughout.

Like most new ventures, the making of this track was not without challenges. Yancyabril even brought in candles with familiar scents to help ease the nerves. She pressed on and executed the vision, realizing a few things during the process. "There was definitely some doubt about releasing the song and it feels very vulnerable but honestly, I have come to accept that not everyone is going to like my songs or me as an artist and that's ok."

Expect an EP sometime in the future but in the meantime, she will continue gigging, and releasing covers via Youtube. While her career is still young, Yancyabril already has an understanding of exactly who she is and where she stands within her craft. "My style might not be for everyone but I know there will be someone who likes my work," She says. And if she's counting Gritty vibes, there already is.
