Utril Rhaburn is the real deal

Why should people see “The Sound of Southside?”

This is a must see! Honestly, The Sound of Southside is a truly genuine film with countless memorable and realistic/ relatable characters with stories that truly cover the culture, spirit and heartbeat of southside Jamaica Queens. Its beyond good. It’s a priceless emotional journey filled with rich in relatable content. Tyrel Hunt covers a special style of film making that I’ve rarely ever seen before! See for yourself!

What was the experience like, seeing yourself on the big screen in your first feature film?

Honestly, after the intro of the film I genuinely forgot for a moment I was a part of this masterpiece. It came together so beautifully I was along for the journey. When I saw myself on the big screen it was surreal in a magical way to see the conviction, and connection captured from scene to scene. Very intense, but true! I believe this is the most inspiring thing to see in a debut. I’m still in partial disbelief of how good it all came together. I’m a fan of the full cast , and all involved. This is a very meaningful film/ story that I’m honored to be a part of. I’m eager to continue this. One of many to come!

Can you tell us about your character “Nasir?”

Nasir is a heavy-hearted rich soul of a saxophonist/artist, former Blue Note Artist of the year, that was badly hurt by goons hired by a crooked politician, you’ll witness him striving to get his head above water again physically & musically, despite discouraging difficulty he persists. He is a key player and spirit to the pain of Jazz , gentrification, and the rough streets of the Southside. He’s in full pursuit to his rise back to glory.

As a Jazz musician, how did you decide on the music that you played in the film?

I chose to develop and compose organic melodies and phrases that emanated the story line sonically, and melodically on saxophone. The conceptual resonance explores the tune of the tireless routine and persistence of effort of my character, Nasir, to reach the bittersweet bliss of a comeback after tragedy, and a new beginning in the environment that was to come. A relentless optimism.

What was your preparation like as a first time actor?

My preparation as a first time actor was to honestly step into Nasir’s shoes literally and immediately absorb those genuine emotions of despair, rage, and disappointment, discernment in the way his journey took a spike from high to low so violently and swiftly. I had to dig deep into my personal experiences and channel it as best and true as possible.
